Durability and Design

Buying china can appear to be a pretty daunting task. You will be bombarded with hundreds of patterns from so many makers you won’t be able to remember the names. Here are two important things to keep in mind while picking out the right china for you. That way you can sort through all the choices and find a pattern that you can fall in love with.

Consideration #1: Durability

If you will be using this china daily, you will want to invest in pieces that are durable as well as dishwasher safe. Having pieces that are dishwasher safe will save you a great deal of time during after dinner clean up. These pieces will also hold up better against daily ware and tare from things like clanks, bangs and scuffs. The most important thing about daily use china is that it live in one piece on your dinner table day after day.

If you are purchasing china to be used for special occasions there is a very good chance that this fine china will NOT be dishwasher safe. That’s okay, it’s no big deal to spend some time at the sink once or twice a year. Just make sure that you keep in mind that special occasion china will need a little more TLC. You will need to take the extra steps to protect the delicate finish.

Consideration #2: Design

What speaks to you; color or simplicity, patterns or solids? There is no right or wrong, there is simply what catches your eye. Your daily use china will typically have a more casual eye appeal. You may remember seeing these more simplistic  everyday pieces on the table of your older relatives during family dinners. On the other hand special occasion china will have a more delicate appeal to it. With fine china you will find the gold or platinum accents with the artistic flairs. Fine china will typically hold a higher price tag and with that wonderful investment you will own a priceless heirloom to share with your family for years to come.

No matter what your china needs, we are confident you will find the exact pattern and style you are looking for. Here are a few of our favorites to get you started: Wedgwood Humming Birds, Bernardaud Antinea Anthracite, Ralph Lauren Empire.
