The designer label is most often thought of in terms of clothing. People will pay enormous premiums for identical quality items if a famous name is attached. Don’t ask me why, but you know that it’s true :).
China companies have tried to capitalize on that trend my having designers add their prestige to lines of china, crystal and dinnerware under their general manufacture. Sometimes it is just the name, others the designers input can be clearly seen (although manufacturers will always claim designer input, for obvious reasons ;)). The results have been mixed. Patterns such as Vera Wang Love Knots and Christian Dior Casablanca have been great hits while Calvin Klein and Christopher Stuart have mostly fizzled out.
The following is a partial list of well known designers who have taken a shot at the dinnerware market.
